Scott Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill Ink First Look Deal With Screen Gems

EXCLUSIVE: Horror filmmakers Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill have signed a first look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to produce feature films for Screen Gems under their Crooked Highway banner.

Derrickson and Cargill’s have teamed on several hit movies, among them are 2022’s sleeper The Black Phone, which minted over $160M at the box office for Universal and Blumhouse with a sequel already on deck. They both wrote, with Derrickson directing, the global Marvel Studios feature Doctor Strange which grossed close to $680M worldwide.  The duo was also behind the Blumhouse box office hit films, Sinister and Sinister 2, which have earned collectively over $140M around the globe. They are currently in post-production on their latest feature, Apple Original Films’ The Gorge, which stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Derrickson’s 2005 breakout hit The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which Sony’s Screen Gems released, earned over $145M globally. In addition to being a screenwriter and producer, Cargill is an accomplished author whose books include the Arthur C. Clark finalist Sea of Rust and its follow up Day Zero.
