Scott McKenna admits nervy Scotland were too 'safe' but insists we CAN be serial qualifiers

Scott McKenna has claimed this Scotland squad is good enough to become serial qualifiers for major finals.

The Scots crashed out of the Euros on Sunday night with just one solitary point and two goals to their name. Some sections of the Tartan Army have accused McKenna of blowing their chance of reaching the knockout stages for the first time. The tournament in Germany also prompted fans to question the quality of the players. But McKenna insists that is NOT the problem and they will prove it when they attempt to reach World Cup 2026 on the other side of the Atlantic.

The centre-back said: “Did we do enough as a team in the tournament? Probably not enough. We didn’t create as many chances as we would have liked. There was a lot of emotion on Sunday night and a lot to play for. And maybe we looked a bit nervy at times, a bit safe. But we somehow need to pick ourselves up from in the weeks and months ahead.

“Because I DO believe that this squad can get to more tournaments in the future. But we need to learn from these types of opportunities.”
