Scott McTominay is latest Scotland injury worry as Man Utd star forced off in some distress

There could be MORE bad news on the injury front for Scotland after Scott McTominay became the latest star forced off for his club.

The Manchester United man was Steve Clarke's talismann during the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, netting seven times to fire his side to Germany. But now there could be asweat over whether he joins the rest of the squad after coming off at Old Trafford. With Erik Ten Hag's side leading Burnley 1-0 at Old Trafford, McTominay went down in stoppage time and seemed in some distress, pounding the turf in pain as he clutches his knee.

It's the last thing Clarke needs after a speight of injuries in recent weeks. Lewis Ferguson won't be on the plane after injuring his cruciate ligament for Bologna. Stuart Armstrong is a doubt after hurting his quad, but will be given every chance. Nathan Patterson will need to go under the knife to fix a hamstring issue. he won't play against for the Toffees this season and is touch and go to make the Euros.

That makes Aaron Hickey's recovery all the more important. The former Hearts starlet hasn't played for Brentford since October. And while Bees boss Thomas Frank said Hickey was "progressing," he doesn't expect him to be back in action before the end of the campaign. Les than ideal as far as Clarke is concerned with a real lack of right backs to pick from.

But McTominay's absence, if confirmed, would be the biggest blow of the lot. The midfielder has stepped it up in dark blue over the last 18 months in a way he hasn't always for united, although has been amongst the goals for them this season.

Clarke and the Tartan Army will be praying it's not as serious as it looked at McTominay will be in the squad to take on Germany for the opening game on June 14.
