A SCOTTISH city was found to have the most expensive Wetherspoons pub for a pint of beer anywhere in the UK.

Research conducted by the data platform Stocklytics examined the average cost for a pint of Carling, Budweiser, Guinness, Heineken, Peroni and Stella at every Wetherspoons branch in the UK.

While the pub chain is known for selling cheap pints, one Scottish city appeared to buck the trend with patrons paying well above the rate of the cheapest pint found in the research: £3.19 at The Church in Wath-upon-Dearne in South Yorkshire.

Indeed, Edinburgh was home to the most expensive Wetherspoons pub for a pint in the UK.

An average pint in The Walter Scott pub in Edinburgh Airport will set drinkers back £6.80 – roughly a 112% increase from the cheapest pint.

It’s a good thing the famous Scottish author preferred whisky, then.

However, the high price of a pint in Edinburgh wasn’t echoed in all Spoons venues in Scotland.

When examined by region, Lothian had the cheapest pint with average cost of £3.42, while Clackmannanshire came second on £3.65.
