A pile of electronic waste has been dumped outside the Scottish Parliament by eco-protestors.

The move, on Monday, June 24. comes as MSP's prepare to take part in a final debate on a bill seeking to change the way waste is handled in Scotland. Climate campaign organisation, Friends of the Earth Scotland, carried out the protest to "demand action" from the parliament.

Posting pictures on social media, the pile of waste included mobile phones and laptops powered by materials such as lithium and copper. The final debate takes place on Tuesday with the group describing the scale of economic waste in Scotland "shocking".

Writing on Instagram. Friends of the Earth Scotland wrote: "This morning, we piled electrical waste outside the Scottish Parliament to demand they take action to reduce the waste of these materials.

"The scale of the electronic waste in this country is shocking. All the waste in these pictures was gathered from a small call out - most of us have something sitting in a cupboard because we don't know what to do with it.

"The final debate of the circular economy bill happens tomorrow. It has the potential to be a big step towards creating a more sustainable future - but only if MSP's vote for some crucial amendments."
