TV chef Jamie Oliver has been slammed online after claiming schools are failing to promote healthy eating by holding cake sales.

Oliver – who previously called for a ban on Turkey Twizzlers and chips in schools – said selling such treats contradicts children’s food education.

“The culture of high fat and sugary foods used as rewards, in fundraising and in celebrations, is creating social and physical environments that contradict children’s food education,” the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation said in a report.

The report, produced in partnership with Sheffield University, found that 86 per cent of secondary school teachers and 85 per cent of primary school teachers said their school fundraising activities include cake and bake sales.

But the findings were slammed online with many deeming Oliver the “Scrooge of schools,” while others accused him of being a hypocrite for publishing the report at the same time as tweeting a recipe for a chocolate cake.

One user posted: “Jamie Oliver slams bake sales...and I'm over here thinking, who the f*** is this spawn of Satan named Jamie Oliver?”

Another tweeted: “Jamie Oliver is a virtue signalling, disingenuous, self-serving troll. He’s now starting on school bake sales.”

A third wrote: “Jamie Oliver bit hypocritical slating Bake sales at schools for good causes and you’re flogging books with sweet treats in them isn’t it?”
