Staff at one of the most beautiful castles in Kent are hoping to trace a couple after their proposal was captured by a member of the public. The romantic moment took place in the spectacular Tudor Garden at Hever Castle and Gardens.

The castle team was sent the video by the visitor who happened to be nearby and captured the love-filled spectacle on their mobile phone. It would be hard to find a more elegant and idyllic setting in which to profess undying love and ask for the hand of your partner.

The Tudor Garden at the castle near Edenbridge has neatly-clipped hedges, a paved fountain garden and a profusion of roses, along with little sheltered gardens, a perfect place to drop to one knee. Now staff at the castle are keen to let the newly-engaged couple have the video of the moment, they will no doubt, remember forever.

Hever Castle's digital marketing executive Lisa Allen said: “On Monday (May 13) we received a lovely video in our Facebook inbox of a proposal that took place in the Tudor Garden on Sunday (May 12) at 4.45pm. The special moment was witnessed by a visitor in the castle who, fortunately, had their phone at the ready and filmed the proposal.

"We would love to connect the happy couple with the kind visitor who captured their special moment.” The post on Hever Castle's Facebook page prompted a flurry of comments from people taken up by the romance of the mission to unite the couple with the video.

It also sparked many memories of people's own proposals, with people sharing where they asked their loved one or where they were asked themselves. At least six people said they too became engaged at Hever Castle and Gardens, with one saying their proposal was also in the Tudor Garden, another saying they were asked by the fountain, another on the bridge, and the other person writing: "most romantic setting ever".

Others are simply mentioning their wedding anniversaries, with one saying it had recently been their 62nd wedding anniversary. And the stunning location of the castle was commented on many times, with one person writing simply: "That's so romantic. Hever is a dream proposal place. What a lovely memory for them."

If you think you know the couple or can help find them, you can email mary.harris@reachplc.com and we'll put you in touch with the castle team. Or - even better - if you are the special couple, get in touch as we'd love to have a chat with you!
