Rescue dogs have been deployed in the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater.

The 19 year old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, vanished on Monday while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. It's understood that Jay had left with two other male companions in a rental car on Sunday and returned to a holiday rental in the village of Masca.

He was reported missing the next morning after he called his friend Lucy Mae Law, informing her that he was making a long walk back to their accommodation with only 1% battery remaining on his phone. His phone died shortly afterwards and Jay, an apprentice bricklayer, has not been seen or heard from since.

Officers from the Guardia Civil have been conducting searches in the Rural de Teno area, near where he was last located three days ago. Dog handlers were spotted joining the search on Thursday, following sightings of helicopters over the tourist area of Playa de Las Americas, close to where Jay was staying on the south of the island.

Further details emerged on Thursday about where Jay was on Sunday night and who he was with. Images surfaced of the holiday rental, a property named Casa Abuela Tina, where he is believed to have returned to, reports the Mirror.

A woman, identified only as Araceli and working at the business adjacent to where the incident occurred, spoke to The Mirror about the situation: "I never saw the missing boy, but I know people saw him walking on his own. I saw the two British men who stayed here. They came in for cafe con leche a couple of times. One was aged about 40. The other one was slightly younger."

She continued, revealing details about the police's involvement and the men's departure: "The police have spoken to them both. They arrived on Saturday and we're due to stay until Monday, but they left on Tuesday."

She expressed uncertainty over whether their extended stay was to cooperate with the police.

It is understood that both men checked out yesterday before making their way back to the UK. A photograph showing Jay holding a cigarette while seated on the steps of the property surfaced shortly before he went missing.

Lucy Mae Law, a friend of Jay's, sounded the alarm after she received a distressing call from him around 8am on Monday. Jay from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, informed her that he was trekking back to their lodging in the island's southern region, feeling thirsty and with his phone's battery critically low at just 1%.

Subsequently, Jay's phone went dead, and the last known location signal was pinpointed to the Rural de Teno area, a rugged terrain on the island. In response to the situation, Jay's family, including his parents and brother, have flown out to join the search efforts.
