Search and Rescue Efforts Continue on Mount Marapi Following Eruption

Search and rescue efforts continued on Indonesia’s Marapi volcano on Wednesday, December 6, as the death toll rose to at least 23 people, local media reported, citing officials.

A total of 75 climbers were on the volcano when it erupted on Sunday, according to the report.

Footage posted by Basarnas Jambi, the national search and rescue agency based in Jambi province, shows rescue teams assemble in hazy conditions on Tuesday.

“Hopefully with the additional of personnel and equipment, all the victims can be found soon. Mount Marapi still emits very thick eruption and fog,” the agency wrote. Credit: Basarnas Jambi via Storyful
