A DISPERSAL order area has been introduced in south Essex over concerns about a car meet expected to take place over the long weekend.

Essex Police had already taken measures to increase police presence in the Roscommon Way area of Canvey after the force received information about a "large car meet".

The dispersal order covers Roscommon Way and several parts of the Basildon borough, including Tesco in Pitsea, the Southfields, Mayflower and Cranes Farm industrial estates, Pipps Hill, and Festival Leisure Park.

A separate dispersal order is also in place in Southend.

It came into force at 5pm on Saturday and is in place until the end of Monday.

Essex Police says: “Dispersal orders give officers extra powers to direct anyone they suspect of causing disorder or anti-social behaviour away from the area.

“Anyone who does not follow that direction could be arrested. Dispersal orders are put in place to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.”
