Secret Invasion star says she's shocked season premiere's ending didn't leak

Secret Invasion spoilers follow.

Secret Invasion star Cobie Smulders has revealed that she was surprised that the ending of the season premiere, which involved a shock death, wasn't leaked online.

The death in question was that of Smulders' Maria Hill, who was shot dead by Kingsley Ben-Adir's Skrull villain Gravik while he was disguised as Nick Fury. The scene was shot at Halifax's The Piece Hall in West Yorkshire, England.

There were multiple people onset including plenty of extras and onlookers. As such, Smulders told The Hollywood Reporter she was surprised that this didn't lead to any leaks about the shock ending of the series' first episode.

"So we went through the sequence of events as they played out with explosions and running and chasing, and then we ended with that," Smulders said.

"There were a lot of people around, so I’m surprised that there wasn’t an image that got leaked. I guess that’s the respect that Marvel has earned over the last decade, which is like, 'Don’t spoil it for people.' And nobody did, thankfully," Smulders said.

Smulders also commented on the role itself and said she was very "grateful" for the run she's had as Hill. Smulders first appeared in the role in The Avengers and then went on to star in five more movies and three series.

She will reportedly make her final appearance as the character in this November's movie, The Marvels. However, as ever with the MCU's multiversal nature, the character's death may not necessarily be the end of the road for Smulders as Hill.

Smulders commented: "That’s sort of for them to decide. I will always answer the call, but I have no idea what they have planned for future productions. But I guess anything’s possible in the multiverse."

Secret Invasion is available to watch on Disney+, with new episodes dropping weekly.
