Police given extra stop and search powers as investigation into shooting continues

Police have again been given extra powers to stop and search people as their investigation into a shooting continues.

Officers were called to a property on Aspinall Crescent, Little Hulton on 9.30pm on Sunday, May 26 to reports of a firearms discharge at a property on Aspinall Crescent, Salford.

Emergency services attended and a 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Since the incident, detectives have made two arrests.

Two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and have since been bailed.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "This is an ongoing investigation with more outstanding suspects identified and intelligence gathered in the local area has identified an increase in violent incidents.

Yesterday, Wednesday, June 5, officers implemented a Section 60  to cover Mort Lane Railway Bridge towards Hilton Lane, Ellesmere Street, Ridgard Street, Eastham Way, Cleggs Lane, Old Lane, Captain Fold, Manchester Road, Kenyon Way, Armitage Avenue to Mort Lane.

This gives police officers extra powers to stop and search people in a defined area within the specific times listed. It will be in place until 4pm today, Thursday June 6.

This is the second time police have been additional powers to stop and search people following the shooting. 

Superintendent Shan Nasim of GMP’s Salford district, said: “Extra patrol officers both on foot and in cars have been deployed around the local area. If you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.

“We are acting upon every piece of intelligence received. If there is any information you might have that could assist in this investigation, I would urge you to get in touch.

“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, whether it be CCTV footage, doorbell footage, photos, we ask that you report it to us directly by contacting us on 101 quoting log number 3266 26/5/2024.
