Security Guard Allegedly Killed by Teen Was Expecting a Child: 'He's Leaving Something Behind For Me,' Mom Says
Isaiah K. Moore, 19, was charged with criminal homicide in connection with the March 17 fatal shooting of 33-year-old security guard Maurice Thomas Jr.
A teen was taken into custody this week in connection with the killing of a security guard who was expecting a child.
Isaiah K. Moore, 19, was arrested on a charge of criminal homicide in connection with the March 17 fatal shooting of security guard Maurice Thomas Jr., 33. He is also facing vehicle burglary charges.
Nashville police said Maurice was shot multiple times outside Illuzion Bar and Lounge on Murfreesboro Pike when he approached Moore and two accomplices who were breaking into cars.
“At one point it appears an argument would ensue, and the suspects are observed firing their handguns at the victim, striking him numerous times in the legs and lower body,” according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
An autopsy revealed that Maurice suffered 13 gunshot wounds.
After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in a maroon Chevrolet Cruze, which was connected to Moore. Moore was later picked up by police at a relative’s apartment.

Maurice’s mother Debbie Taylor told WKRN that the day after her son died, she learned that he was expecting a child.
“It’s like he’s leaving something behind for me,” she said.
“I’m gonna miss him so much,” she told the outlet. “It’s like a dream to me now. It really hasn’t kicked in. I don’t feel like he’s gone. It’s like he’s here with me still. I just can’t see him and talk to him, but he’s still here with me and I’ll see him soon. That’s how I feel.”
Her son was "charismatic," she said. "He was so sweet. That’s my baby.”
Investigators are working “to confirm the identities of the others involved and bring them into custody,” police said in a press release.
Moore is being held without bail at a Davidson County jail. It is unclear if he's retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
