Police are investigating a shooting outside Drake's mansion in the Bridle Path neighborhood of Toronto.

A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service confirmed to Business Insider on Tuesday that a security guard suffered a gunshot wound while standing outside the front gates.

The shooting occurred at about 2:00 a.m. ET, according to the spokesperson. The victim was found unconscious and "taken to the hospital with very serious injuries." At the time of writing, he is still hospitalized.

Speaking to media at the scene, Toronto Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk was not able to confirm if Drake was home at the time of the incident and said it's too early to speculate about a motive — but he did say a vehicle fled after the shot was fired.

Local outlet CityNews first confirmed that it wasn't Drake who was shot. There is no evidence to suggest the Canadian rapper was injured or directly involved in the incident, though his home has since been taped off by police.

Initial reports from CBC News said the ongoing investigation is centered at Drake's home.

Krawczyk told reporters the authorities were in contact with Drake's team and they were fully cooperating.

A representative for Drake did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The news comes amid a cutthroat rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

On Saturday, Lamar shared a diss track called "Not Like Us." The cover art shows an aerial view of Drake's Toronto dwelling, edited to appear covered by the same red markers used by the sex offender registry.

In the song, Lamar accuses Drake of pedophilia: "Certified lover boy? Certified pedophile," he raps, referencing the title of Drake's sixth studio album. Lamar adds: "Trying to strike a chord and it's probably A Minor."

On Sunday, Drake responded with "The Heart Part 6," in which he explicitly denies any sexual misconduct and says he's "way too famous" to get away with such crimes.
