See gorgeous garden at Mountbatten this weekend

Mountbatten will join the National Open Garden Scheme for the first time, this weekend, to show off its award-winning Chelsea Garden.

The Halberry Lane hospice, in Newport, proudly unveiled its green space in 2016, when it was opened by Alan Titchmarsh.

It was originally  Royal Bank of Canada 2015 Chelsea Flower Show garden.

Since then, it has developed into a colourful haven, tended by volunteers.

There are trees, shrubs, herbaceous, grasses, a water feature and decking with an abundance of wildlife.

Free parking is available, and there will be snacks and drinks at the café.

Mountbatten CEO, Nigel Hartley, said: “We are thrilled to be part of this year’s National Open Garden Scheme.

“While our garden is open to the public all year round for everyone to enjoy, this weekend gives a special emphasis to the wonderful outside space we have at Mountbatten.

“Our garden offers a space for social connections, quiet contemplation and reflection and we really encourage people to come along to see it.”

The National Open Garden Scheme celebrates vibrant gardens across the country.

Elsewhere, via the scheme, the three-acre, landscaped Ningwood Manor Garden offers a walled courtyard, croquet lawn, white garden and kitchen garden, available to see by appointment only, until August 30.

Meanwhile, a number of other Isle of Wight gardens will be open to the public, or by appointment for groups, on dates over the summer.
