See inside luxurious Regal Princess cruise ship which visited Greenock this week

A ROYAL visitor caught the eye of locals when she paid a visit to Greenock yesterday – and the Tele were invited on board for an exclusive look around.

The 20-deck Regal Princess made her sixth visit to Inverclyde of the sailing season on Tuesday as part of a 12-day round trip from Southampton.

Representatives from the huge vessel’s operators Princess Cruises invited the Tele team aboard for a tour of the incredible ship’s facilities.

We were shown around the ship by Alex Nanu, a member of Regal Princess’s events and guest services team who helps take care of the vessel’s 3,600 guests.

He told the Tele that ship staff and crew aim to cater for all of their guests needs and provide those on-board with a luxurious living experience throughout their stay.

The vessel boasts an impressive array of attractions and facilities, which include a casino, a sophisticated theatre, an outdoor cinema, three large dining rooms, a TV studio and a luxurious spa.

When guests arrive on Regal Princess, they are issued with a special Princess Cruises medallion, which is used to access their rooms, embark and disembark the ship and plan their activities while on-board.

The wearable device tracks each passenger no matter where they are on the ship, meaning guests can use to order food and drinks directly to their location and find out what their loved ones are up to.

The Tele was given a peek at the ship’s most popular facilities, like the Princess Theatre, its state-of-the-art auditorium where talented teams of performers put on two productions every night for hundreds of passengers.

Regal Princess’s art gallery offers guests the chance to take in the finer things in life and take home some of the artworks curated by the ship’s art director.

The popular auctions are regularly held on the ship and have seen paintings and sculptures go for as much as $200,000.

Passengers will also find it easy to make memories during their stay, thanks to a team of ten roving photographers taking snaps at every event, which guests can purchase while on-board.

The squad of snappers also come in handy when the events such as weddings are being held on-board, which Alex told the Tele was a regular occurrence.

Catering for almost 3,600 passengers and 1,400 crew is no mean feat, but the huge vessel offers a wide range of cuisines across its 20-decks, which include a steak and seafood grill, a pizzeria, an Italian restaurant and an international café.

While the ship’s interior features a vast number of attractions, its exterior has an equally exciting offering, with a large outdoor cinema screen and a number of pools.

Located at the rear of the open deck is ‘Sanctuary’, a series of rentable cabanas where guests can go to relax and be pampered.

One of the ship’s most eye-catching features is its 60-foot-long enclosed glass ‘Seawalk’, which juts over its starboard side and offers stunning views of the surrounding waters.

But the engineering marvel is not for the faint hearted as its transparent floor gives those walking over it a direct view at the water 128 feet below them.
