The series order and the timing of the new series was confirmed in a joint post by Disney and Gomez’s former costar on the show, David Henrie.

Shared alongside the message was a throwback photo from the show of Gomez resting her head on Henrie’s shoulder spliced with a teaser photo from the upcoming series of Gomez in the same position with Henrie as the pair sat on a couch.
Gomez reposted the announcement post on her Instagram Story as she wrote, “Guess what? WE GOT PICKED UP FOR SEASON 1!”
Henrie, 34, also shared his reaction to the news on his Instagram Story, writing, “🧙🪄🙌🏻 … CAN’T WAIT!!! See you this Fall! 🙌🏻.”
According to Deadline, the upcoming sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place is titled Wizards and sees Gomez and Henrie, who played siblings on the show, return as executive producers.
Henrie will also be back as Justin Russo in a series regular role, while Gomez, who played Alex Russo, will make a guest appearance. The franchise will also feature new faces Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, Max Matenko and Mimi Gianopulos.
Wizards of Waverly Place ran from 2007 to 2012 and followed a family of wizards. According to Deadline, the upcoming sequel will follow Justin as he embarks on living a normal, mortal life with his family (played by Thiele, Matenko and Gianopulos). This is interrupted though when his sister (Gomez) shows up with a young wizard (Brown) who he must train while juggling family life and safeguarding the Wizard World.
The new series is being written by Jed Elinoff, who is also the executive producer, and Scott Thomas. The pair also wrote the successful That’s So Raven Disney Channel spinoff series, Raven’s Home. Production begins in April, Deadline reported.
