Selma Blair Kicks Off Her Return to Paris and Fashion at Ami

“It’s been ages,” Lou Doillon exclaimed on Thursday at the Ami show after air kissing Selma Blair, who was back in Paris after — wait for it — a 20-year absence.

“I was last here when I worked with Chanel. I was friends with Karl [Lagerfeld] and I did their campaigns for a few years,” the American actress said.

After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, Blair became an advocate for accessibility and awareness, doing projects in fashion for people with disabilities.

Now in remission, she was looking forward to acting again and had stretched her funny bone earlier in the day with an “American girl in Paris” skit on Instagram. But at Alexandre Mattiussi’s spring show, she was the picture of Parisian chic in a chocolate coat with gold buttons, despite the evening’s heat.

Her tactic? “I’m wearing this outerwear as ‘everything-wear,’ it’s my dress,” she revealed.

Doillon had been equally cunning in her sartorial choices, a glossy beige suit she swore was waterproof. “When I saw the little drizzle out there, I thought ‘a-ha, I have the right look,’” the French singer said.

Trays of Champagne made their way around the artfully disheveled rooms of a grand building, as guests including Emma Roberts, Juliette Binoche and Catherine Deneuve took in the sweeping view of the French National Assembly, the Grand Palais and the Concorde oblisk.

The show began as the sun started to set, giving the skies painterly nuances of pink.

Afterward, fans could be heard clamoring for “Parasite” star Wooshik Choi, Twice’s lead singer Jiyho Park, or Mika Hashizume, who is a member of Chinese boy band Into1. The screaming hit a fever pitch with the exit of American actor and singer Ross Lynch.

They were among the guests who repaired to the Aquarium de Paris for more Champagne as well as elbow macaroni topped with truffles, pan-seared tuna and miniature cheesecakes.

As Blair arrived under the garlands of lights strung on elegant wooden gazebos in the Trocadéro gardens, she pointed to the Eiffel Tower.

“What’s that?” she joked, the twinkle in her eye matching the monument’s hourly sparkling display.
