Beauty giant Sephora has revealed plans to open a new store at the Metrocentre in early September.

The shopping centre had previously hinted at Sephora's arrival in June, dubbing it the "world's worst kept secret" on its social media platforms. Now, Sephora has officially confirmed the news, indicating an opening date around early September.

Sephora's expansion into the region was first announced in March, with plans for a spacious 6,600sqft store in Eldon Square this autumn. This will be only the fourth UK location, joining existing stores in London and Manchester. The brand new store will be located in the Lower Platinum Mall.

Sarah Boyd, Sephora UK's managing director, stated: "Continuing our trend of listening to our customers and where they want to see us open, we heard the beauty community of the North East loud and clear.", reports Chronicle Live. She added: "Metrocentre is one of the largest retail destinations across Europe, and joining the booming shopping centre is an exciting chapter in our continued expansion in the UK.

"We cannot wait to welcome all the passionate beauty lovers of the region to our store and creating an iconic moment for retail in the North East." Ahead of the opening of a new store, Metrocentre has posted several job vacancies at Sephora.

These include roles for fragrance, skincare and makeup supervisors, beauty advisors, and brow and beauty experts, with applications closing in early August. More information about each vacancy can be found on the shopping centre's website here.

Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros, the company that manages Metrocentre, said: "Sephora is one of the most talked about retailers within the industry and its ambitious expansion plans across the UK have sparked a real excitement amongst consumers. Sephora will be a fantastic addition to Metrocentre."

With over 2,700 stores in 35 countries worldwide, Sephora aims to "create a welcoming beauty shopping experience for all and inspire fearlessness in our community". The company, which was founded in France by Dominique Mandonnaud in 1970, is owned by global luxury goods group LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
