Serie A side aim to seal permanent transfer for ex-Leeds United loanee and Middlesbrough man

It looks increasingly likely that Djed Spence will be given the green light to leave Tottenham this summer. The right-back, who endured a frustrating loan spell at Leeds United last season, is reportedly wanted by Serie A side Genoa.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has stated Spurs are open to letting Spence go on a permanent basis. Spence spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Genoa after failing to secure a regular starting spot at Elland Road. The former England Under-21 international featured 16 times for the Italian outfit as they finished 11th in the table.

Romano has suggested talks are ongoing between Genoa and Spurs regarding Spence's future. He claims that a potential deal could hinge on Tottenham's valuation of the player. It has been claimed that Genoa will not pay the full £8.5m option to buy in the deal and will instead look to pay a lower fee.

Spence joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022 from Middlesbrough following a superb loan spell at Nottingham Forest as they secured promotion to the Premier League. But Spence has struggled to make the grade in North London, with the defender being loaned out to Rennes, United and Genoa in the past two years.

He originally joined the Whites on a season-long loan deal but his spell was cut short during the January transfer window. "He's a player of great potential and also a cool guy with a really good heart so we really wish him all the best," said boss Daniel Farke. "But yeah, sometimes you need to take a decision then you have to do this."
