Seriously injured woman cut from wreckage after car and lorry crash in Cornwall

A woman was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash, in Cornwall, this morning, Thursday, June 27. Emergency services were called to Cleers Hill, near Whitemoor, north west of St Austell, following a car and lorry collision at around 10.30am.

Police said a woman was trapped in her vehicle before being flown to Derriford Hospital. Fire crews used rescue equipment to cut her free from the wreckage before she was left in the care of the air ambulance.

Cleers Hill was closed in both directions following the crash. According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the closure is in place between the turn off for Stenalees and Gwendra Lane.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified at around 10.30am on Thursday 27 June following reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry at Cleers Hill, near Whitemoor.

"A road closure was put in place and the fire service also called. A driver was extracted from her vehicle and airlifted to Derriford Hospital by Cornwall Air Ambulance having sustained what are believed to be serious injuries."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service added: "Appliances from St Austell, Padstow and Bodmin attended this incident. The incident involved a collision with car and a lorry, crews used stabilising equipment and crash rescue equipment to extricate the casualty from the vehicle. The female casualty was left in the care of the air Ambulance. Police were also on scene."
