Seven Jay Slater sightings since he vanished in Tenerife - from bench to church

Seven Jay Slater sightings since the missing Brit teen vanished in Tenerife have been revealed. The teenager was last heard from on Monday morning when he phoned a friend saying he was lost, needed water, and that his phone battery was on one per cent.

A spokesperson for the music festival Mr Slater had been attending in the Canaries said it had been able to “give some practical support” to Slater’s family. “That such a devastating situation has arisen has deeply affected us all,” they said, adding that they had been “inspired by [the family’s] resilience and determination”.

The Guardia Civil said on Friday: “There is a search on going and the police operation is focused on the area of Masca (Tenerife). We cannot confirm any more information.” The search continues in the Canary Islands and has entered its eighth day on June 24 (Monday).

Jay's last Snapchat photo was posted, showing his hand holding a cigarette at accommodation near the Rural de Teno Park. He had been with friends at the NRG music festival, but had gone back with two men he had met, who are believed to be British, to their holiday cottage on the outskirts of the village of Masca, almost 25 miles (40km) north of the holiday resort in Los Cristianos where he was staying with friends.

MONDAY, 8AM

His friend Lucy received a phone call from Jay at about 8am, telling her he was 'lost in the mountains with no water' and just one per cent battery on his mobile. The phone's last signal close to the Masca gorge beauty spot.

Debbie Duncan told the Guardian she still thinks "something untoward" may have happened to her son. She flew to the Spanish island on Tuesday, the day after the 19-year-old went missing, to help look for him.

Ms Duncan said police had told her they were "investigating all leads". "They've got all the plans, their locations," she added. "They have got this map they were showing us, shaded different colours."

MONDAY, 8.15AM

The Airbnb's owner Ophelia Medina Hernandez has revealed how she saw him walking at pace in the nearby village Masca. "It's dangerous walking around here, it's easy to lose yourself. He walked up the road when I saw him for the last time," she said.

"He was alone. He was walking normally, though he was fast." Spanish police have rejected an offer by Lancashire Constabulary to assist. The force said while the case "falls outside the jurisdiction of UK policing", it offered to support Spanish police "if they need any additional resources".

MONDAY, 8.50AM

Jay’s phone died at about 8.50am, with his last known location registered to the Rural de Teno park near Masca where he had apparently stayed that night. The force added: "They have confirmed that at this time they are satisfied that they have the resources they need, but that offer remains open and they will contact us should that position change."

Mr Slater is from the Lancashire town of Oswaldtwistle, where specialist officers are continuing to support his family, the force said.

MONDAY, 9.04AM

Jay is reported missing by friends including Lucy, before the UK Foreign Office is alerted later that day. The apprentice bricklayer was holidaying with friends on Tenerife before he disappeared, and had been at the NRG music festival on Sunday.

He was last heard from just after 8am on Monday, when he called his friend Lucy Law to say he was setting off on an 11-hour walk to get home after missing a bus.

She said he told her he was lost, in need of water, and only had 1% charge on his phone.

MONDAY, 6PM

A man says someone resembling Jay was sitting on a bench beside a church at Santiago de Teide, back closer towards Playa de las Americas. Speaking to MailOnline, Jay's mother Debbie Duncan, 55, said: "Someone has come forward to say they saw someone who they thought was Jay walking back down the road sat on a bench.

"He was with two men looking a bit worse for wear, and they were by a church, this guy has come forward and told the police about it and they are looking into it. We don't know if it was Jay for sure, but it's a start. They said it was about 6pm which is ten hours after he was seen by the lady in the village. But if it was him what was he doing there and who are these two men?"
