Several homes evacuated after fire breaks out at industrial building in Mansfield

Several homes have been evacuated as firefighters battle a fire at an industrial building in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

The fire started at about 3.45pm on Saturday.

A local leisure centre has been opened for residents who have been told to leave their homes.

Phillip Arnold, 79, told Nottinghamshire Live: "I've never seen anything like this and I have been here for 50 years.

"My house is just doors away from it.

"They came and knocked on my door and said we have got to evacuate.

"I've been out here for about three hours now."

Those remaining in their homes have been told to keep doors and windows closed.

Parts of Forest Road, Sandhurst Avenue, Bessemer Drive and Nottingham Road are also without power as the fire service has had to isolate the electrics while fighting the fire.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This incident is likely to be ongoing for some time, so please avoid the area if possible."
