Severance season 2 sees director Ben Stiller’s twisty, turny workplace dramedy return to Apple TV+ to venture deeper down the conspiracy-filled rabbit hole at the heart of the show.

The Zoolander star and part-time director brought us Severance’s first batch of episodes in 2022 with fellow director Aoife McArdle. Both received critical and audience acclaim for their work adapting screenwriter Dan Erickson’s unusual story concept with a second season swiftly ordered.

For those who have yet to watch it, Severance brings viewers to a company that enrols its employees into a mysterious program that separates their work memories from their free time memories.

Of course, as with any new-fangled medical procedure used in sci-fi film or TV, the scheme comes with its fair share of shady practices and unexpected results.

With Stiller set to explore this world even further, here’s everything we know about Severance season 2 so far, including its plot, release date, trailer and more.

Severance season 2 doesn’t have a UK release date just yet.

The show’s second series was announced just before its series one finale aired, with production starting in October 2022. Unfortunately, the 2023 Hollywood strikes caused production to grind to a halt with filming not starting up again until January 2024.

After more than a year and a half, production on Severance season 2 finally wrapped in April 2024, with costume designer Carol Deelay sharing the news on her personal Instagram page.

Despite new episodes in the can, it’s still too early to tell when we can expect to see them on Apple TV+. Perhaps sometime in late 2024 or early 2025?

In May 2024, series star Adam Scott was quizzed about new episodes and said that fans don't have too long to wait before they can dive back in.

“I wish I could tell you and everybody about what’s coming up because it’s going to be so much fun,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I can’t wait for people to see it, but I can’t say a word, but it’ll finally be coming out in the somewhat near future and I can’t wait for everyone to see it... It was so much fun to make.”

Hopefully, we’ll have more release date information soon.

There’s no trailer available for Severance season 2 just yet.

That said, as the show makes its way to the editing room, there’s a strong chance that we’ll start to see some footage from new Severance episodes emerge over the coming months.

As we briefly explained above, Severance is set in a world where a company known as Lumon Industries lets its workers separate their work memories from those gained during their downtime via a new medical technique called ‘Severance’.

Those who opt for this lifestyle are known as ‘Innies’ when they’re at work and ‘Outies’ when they are at home, with the two sets of memories staying completely separate from one another.

However, this mental divide leads to employees leading two very separate lives, each oblivious to the other. When newcomer Mark embarks on this new workplace lifestyle, he quickly discovers some sinister secrets that lead all the way to the top of Lumen Industries.

It is expected that Severance season 2 will pick up after the events of the first series but nothing has been officially confirmed at the time of writing. If you’re yet to watch the Severance season one then beware: mild spoilers lurk below.

As the show’s first season progressed, some Severance-afflicted employees were able to access their out-of-work life, discovering some shocking secrets in the process. Severance season 2 will likely continue to explore the conflicts of its key players and the drama their dual lives generate.

Scott will return to play Mark in Severance season 2, a former history teacher turned ‘Severed’ Lumen employee who makes some stark discoveries about the ‘Innie’ and ‘Outie’ lives of both himself and his co-workers.

Patricia Arquette will also be back as Harmony, Mark’s next-door neighbour and manager at Lumen. John Turturro’s company rule-lover Irving and Christopher Walken’s head of Optics Burt are also expected to return.

Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Dichen Lachman and Tramell Tillman will also appear as Mark’s Lumen co-workers, with Jen Tullock and Mark Chernus starring as key players from Mark’s ‘Outie’ life.

Behind the camera, Ben Stiller is once again expected to direct Severance season 2 but it’s not currently known if he’ll helm every single episode.
