A teacher found guilty of having sex with two pupils is to be sentenced today.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, of Pensby Road in Thingwall, Wirral, groomed one boy with a shopping trip to the Trafford Centre before taking him back to her apartment and having sex with him when he was 15. She then fell pregnant with another teenage pupil.

Joynes met the two boys through her job as a teacher at a Greater Manchester school, which cannot be named for legal reasons. The 30-year-old denied four counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts with sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

Following a two week trial, the seven men and five women of the jury found her guilty on all counts on Friday, May 17. Standing in the dock, Joynes closed her eyes and grimaced, before she began visibly shaking as the guilty verdicts were returned.

Her mum and dad, who were sat in the public gallery, made no reaction but yards away the parents of the teenage boys stifled cheers as Joynes was convicted.

Joynes was seen crying in the dock as she was granted bail until her sentence date. Judge Kate Cornell told Joynes: “You know you must be here at court for sentence, and have to serve whatever sentence I pass.

"On the understanding that you realise that, I am prepared to grant you bail on the same conditions. You must see probation before sentencing.

Judge Cornell implied Joynes should expect to be jailed for her offending. She warned: “There is a baby involved here who has done nothing wrong - you must be under no illusions on what is going to happen. Bail can be granted on the same conditions as before."

Judge Cornell will sentence Joynes today, July 4, at Manchester Crown Court.

Yesterday, Joynes was seen spending her final moments of freedom at a retail park in Chester. She was spotted wearing a baseball cap as she got into a white car.

Jurors previously heard both boys sent her flirty Snapchat messages before Boy A was taken shopping, bought a £350 Gucci belt and went back to her flat on Salford Quays where they had sex, with his semen later recovered from her bedsheets by police.

Boy B said sexual activity began when he was 15 with kissing and full sex when he was 16 and while he was still a pupil. Joynes had claimed no sexual activity ever took place with Boy A and a relationship developed with Boy B while she was suspended from her job and only became sexual after she was dismissed and he had left school at 16, so no offence had taken place.
