Paramount+'s Sexy Beast prequel series has released its first trailer.

24 years on from the British gangster thriller, Andor's James McArdle and The Rig's Emun Elliott portray younger versions of Gal Dove and Don Logan (originally played by Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley) as they move through a vibrant London during the '90s.

In the trailer, head hardman Teddy Bass, played by True Blood's Stephen Moyer, is seen consulting Paul Kaye's character on the potential recruitment of Gal and Don for a big-money errand.

"He's a loyal dog, but I don't think he's all there upstairs," Teddy is warned about Don, before we skip to a cafe scene where Don goes ballistic over a milkshake.

There is also a burgeoning love story between Gal and DeeDee (Normal People's Sarah Greene), who meet each other at a club.

"What's it feel like, cracking a safe?" she asks him, to which he replies: "It's the only time I feel alive..."

"Well then, you're not living enough," DeeDee says, as a sunny beach reference to the original movie's events cuts in.

The cast for Sexy Beast also includes Friday Night Dinner's Tamsin Greig as Don's formidable older sister Cecilia and The Reckoning's Julian Rhind-Tutt, plus Eliza Bennett, Nicholas Nunn, Peter Ferdinando, Lex Shrapnel and John Dagleish.

Discussing the series when it was first announced, actor McArdle said: "I feel very fortunate to be a part of this world.

"The original story leaves so much space for us all to wonder what happened within Gal and Don's friendship in the years prior. I'm looking forward to everyone being able to rediscover these characters and find out."

Sexy Beast premieres Thursday, January 25 on Paramount+.
