Shadowhunters fans are furious after accusing Freeform of mocking them about the show's cancellation during a screening of Toy Story.

In June, the broadcaster announced that it would be axing the show after its third season due to economic reasons, with a special two-part finale already on order.

Devastated fans immediately kickstarted the #SaveShadowhunters campaign in a bid to save the show from cancellation. It has so far raised over $18k for The Trevor Project, and seen a plane to fly over Netflix's LA headquarters with a giant #SaveShadowhunters banner, and a billboard crop in New York City's Times Square.

However, it has so far been to no avail, as the show has remained cancelled - and now fans think they are being mocked.

The incident occurred on Saturday night (December 15) when Freeform aired the classic Pixar film, Toy Story.

During the broadcast, various trivia pop-ups appeared on screen, and one particular scene had Shadowhunters fans riled.

In a scene where Woody shakes a Magic 8-Ball to reveal the answer 'Don't Count On It', the question "Will Freeform save Shadowhunters if I keep tweeting about it?" appears as the associated trivia - and fans (plus, even casual bystanders) aren't happy about the "low blow".

Below are just a few of their reactions:

Production sources have since said the trivia pop-up referencing Shadowhunters' cancellation was 'a mistake'.

Freeform has declined to comment.

Shadowhunters season three returns to Freeform in the US on February 25, 2019, while Netflix airs the show in the UK.
