Yahoo News Shameless adds Katey Sagal and Courteney Cox to cast
Shameless season nine looks set to be the best batch of episodes yet after a couple of small screen heavyweights joined the cast.
Courtney Cox (famous for playing Monica Geller on Friends) and Katey Sagal (Futurama, 8 Simple Rules) are the new additions to the cast - and what additions they are!
Sagal is set to reprise her role as Ingrid Jones on the show, while Cox will guest star as Jen Wagner - a former actress with an alcohol problem.
Fans might remember Sagal from earlier seasons as Ingrid - a crazed ER patient who Frank develops feelings for.
Showtime announced back in January that Shameless would be returning for a ninth season with stars William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum both coming back for new episodes.
In response to the news, Showtime President David Nevins said: "As challenging as it can be for any show simply to maintain viewers in the current TV landscape, Shameless is adding them in droves. But it's no mystery why.
"The series' reputation for rich and resonant characters and for deep – and deeply twisted – comedy has drawn not only faithful longtime viewers, but a steadily growing audience."
Showrunner John Wells added: "We are so grateful to Showtime for giving us the opportunity to continue making Shameless. It's a labour of love (and a blast) for all of us."
In a short teaser trailer, shared at the time of the announcement, Frank (Macey) can be seen in the middle of a spiritual awakening while shouting: "The system is f***ed!"
Shameless returns for season 9 on September 9.
