There has been further cliff fall in Luccombe on the Isle of Wight tonight (Thursday), coastguard has said.

UPDATE: HM Coastguard has since said "no signs were found of an incident or anyone in distress."

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor and Bembridge were called to investigate earlier today.

They were alerted at around 7.20pm, and a spokesperson for HM Coastguard said the teams confirmed another landslip has happened in the area.

Its scale and severity cannot be determined at this stage.

Back in January, a section of cliff fell at Luccombe, entirely covering the beach at the far end of the Bay.

The Isle of Wight has grappled with a spate of landslides and cliff collapses since the devastating incident at Leeson Road in Bonchurch last December.

At the weekend, the Isle of Wight Council warned us to use “common sense and caution” following heavy rainfall which has led to unstable cliff faces.

The local authority said the Island has suffered some of the heaviest rainfall it has ever seen in recent months.

This has left the ground sodden, and cliff faces unstable.

“Stay away from the edge and base of cliffs, and always pay attention to warning signs and safety messages," warned the local authority.

UPDATE

HM Coastguard has since said "no signs were found of an incident or anyone in distress."
