Shannen Doherty Doesn’t Regret Her Absence from ‘Charmed’ Finale: “It Would’ve Crushed Me”

Shannen Doherty said if she’d had the chance to return for the Charmed finale, she still would have chosen not to. The actress said this week going back to set “would’ve crushed me.”

“I regret it one sense, I regret it for the fans,” she said on her Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty podcast. “But I don’t regret it for me, because I was so incredibly wrecked from getting fired that, I think, even years — years — years later, had I walked on that set, it just would’ve stirred everything back up for me. And it would’ve crushed me all over again.”

Doherty was fired from Charmed after season 3, and has since alleged that co-star Alyssa Milano was the reason for her firing, claiming the actress gave producers an ultimatum to choose between the two of them.

Earlier this year, a feud between the actresses made headlines for several weeks, when Milano called Doherty’s claim “revisionist history” and then spoke about the saga at MegaCon.

“There is no revisionist history happening in the truth that I know we told,” Doherty said. “There is no brush flinging or shoe flinging. There is no lateness to set, there is no mediator for months on end. I recall the facts as if I was still living in them.”

Doherty, currently fighting stage four cancer, also said, “At this point in my life with my health diagnosis — I’m sorry if I start crying — with fighting horrific disease every day of my life, it is also incredibly important to me that the truth actually be told as opposed to the narrative that others put out there for me.”

Charmed, which first aired on the WB and later The CW, saw Milano, Doherty and Holly Marie Combs as the Halliwell sisters, a trio who learned they were descendants of a line of good female witches needed to fight evil with combined witchcraft they referred to as “the power of three.” After Doherty’s exit, Rose McGowan joined the main cast.
