Sharon Stone Steals Spotlight at Ermenegildo Zegna Launch Party

The lines between art, fashion and entertainment were blurred at Thursday’s launch party for Italian label Ermenegildo Zegna’s new Rodeo Drive global store.

Los Angeles’ JF Chen served as the hub for the convergence. Guests entered the venue through a gallery space that displayed framed ads from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2014 couture collection conceived by new creative director Stefano Pilati. A series of 15 images — shot by famed Dutch photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin — told a narrative of “The New Eminences Grises” — a.k.a. powerful right-hand men who work behind the scenes. Behind every great man, there’s evidently another great man.

The ads displayed Jamie Dornan and featured Italian model Paolo Anchisi lurking in the background. The sensory experience was enhanced by a “news report” that played on loop. In the video, Pilati explained his choice of Dornan as the face of the brand: “He has made understatement the key to his success.” It’s safe to say this decision was made before Dornan was cast as Christian Grey in Focus’ upcoming “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Understatement was the theme of the night in the industrial space that was void of decoration. With the exception of 1950s-inspired chairs, couches and tables, the party room — beside the gallery — was free of props. The setting was a minimalist extension of the new collection.

English, Italian and French chatter and electronic music filled the packed room of fashion and entertainment insiders. Jeremy Renner and Gerard Butler didn’t budge from their spot at the party’s entrance, chatting at length, while Edward Norton and Gavin Rossdale paired up for a confab of their own.

The party came to a screeching halt when Sharon Stone walked in. Guests gravitated toward the actress like moths to a flame, following her every move. Gildo Zegna himself escorted Stone around the gallery, explaining the concept behind the campaign. Revelers stared at her as she started at the art. The “Basic Instinct” star remarked that she thought it was a woman behind every great man.

Once Stone, who was clad in a low-cut, high-slit white mini dress and sequined gold blazer, made her way to the main room, she became a human centerpiece. The movie star was now the walking art on display.
