Shazam: Lights Out's David F. Sandberg courted by Warner Bros. to direct superhero movie

For their upcoming superhero films, Warner Bros. are trying to rope in some very mixed directors. Last week, for instance, they announced Mel Gibson is currently in discussion with the studio to direct a sequel to Suicide Squad.

Following his success with Lights Out, David F. Sandberg is reportedly being courted to direct the upcoming adaptation of Shazam.

So far, very little is known about the film except Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will play the titular superhero’s nemesis, Black Adam.

Shazam has been in development for years, with numerous scripts and directors being cycled through. Following Annabelle 2, the film would mark Sandberg’s third feature film.

Interestingly, Warner Bros. has fellow horror director James Wan directing Aquaman, Wan having previously helmed Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring 2 (as well as Furious 7).

Other upcoming films in the DC extended universe include Wonder Woman, Justice League, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens, The Batman, and Green Lantern Corps. Whether the hero Shazam will feature in any of those films remains to be seen.
