Sheridan Smith fans are congratulating the star on “her pregnancy” after a cryptic Instagram post about morning sickness.

The 38-year-old actor and singer posted an Instagram photo of two VIP passes for the Stages cruise, a “floating theatre festival” which she is starring in, captioned: “About to set sail for 4 days, wish me luck with my morning sickness.”

Smith’s comments were immediately flooded with pregnancy well wishes as fans believed she had used it to announce she was expecting a baby.

One wrote: “Morning sickness!!! Wonderful, wonderful news if it means what I and many others think. Big congratulations to you both. Have a wonderful time on the cruise, wish I could be there.”

Another added: “Morning sickness??? I must have missed something...oh my god oh my god oh my god so happy for you xx”

Someone else commented: “Wow, thank you for sharing your wonderful news with us! Congratulations.”

As recently as September, Smith, who is engaged to 28-year-old Jamie Horn, spoke about her plans for children.

Talking about working as the narrator in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, she told The Mirror: “I can’t tell you how much I love the kids. I am gonna miss them so much. They are all an utter joy and have made the whole experience for me.

“I will cherish the memories and watch their careers flourish. Me and Jamie now are thinking of making me a mamma. All thanks to these amazing souls.”

She also appeared to drop another hint in an Instagram post from a few days earlier.

However, over the weekend her memories of having worked on the theatre production, which she has recently left, were soured by a story in The Sun that she had been axed after losing her temper with the child cast.

Smith strenuously denied the rumours, posting on Twitter: “I try not to rise to the tabloid b******t but they’ve gone a step too far this time.

“The story today is completely untrue, the kids in the show were the only reason I stayed the whole run. I love every single one of them and the kids and their parents became family.”

One of her former child co-stars tweeted to show her support for the star, denying the story was true.

Earlier this year, Smith had spoken about her fears that she wouldn’t be able to cope with motherhood.

In June, she told The Telegraph’s Stella magazine on whether she’d like to be a mum: “Oh God, I don’t know. Yes on the one hand, but then am I actually ready? Could I cope? I have to ask myself serious questions like this.

“My mum tells me she knows I could. She watched me with my dad in the last few days of his life and told me if I could be that caring I would be a perfect mother – but I don’t know. ‘ just know I’m not perfect.”

Smith’s four-day Stages cruise is a round trip from Southampton, stopping off in Dublin, and also features Alfie Boe, Collabro, and the cast of Avenue Q on the bill.
