Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may be two of the most famous actors in the world, but to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, they’re just mom and dad.

The former couple welcomed their third child on May 27, 2006. Shiloh was preceded by two older siblings — Maddox and Zahara — and followed by Pax and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Jolie was initially nervous about motherhood, writing in TIME that she “never thought” she could be a mom due to her unstable youth. "I remember the decision to become a parent. It wasn’t hard to love. It wasn’t hard to dedicate myself to someone and something greater than my life,” she wrote. “What was hard was knowing that from now on I needed to be the one to make sure everything was okay.”

The Eternals star went on to share that it was “impossible” to reach perfection as a parent. “Your children don’t want you perfect. They just want you honest,” she wrote. “The more room they have to be great where you are weak, the stronger they may become. In the end, it’s the team you build. And in a way, they are raising you up too. You grow together."

That growth started early with Shiloh, whom Jolie described as a “little honey” when she was young. “Shi's so full of light and love ... and very, very funny,” Jolie told MSN in 2007. “I think I'm recognizing some of myself in that one — she's going to be a little bit of trouble!"

Pitt has also loved seeing Shiloh’s personality grow over the years. “I love [my kids] to find their own way, find things they’re interested in, find their own voice, and flourish,” he told Entertainment Tonight in 2022.

However, the Troy actor was reportedly "upset" when Shiloh decided to legally change her last name from Jolie-Pitt to Jolie once she turned 18.

From her love of dance and film to international humanitarian trips, here’s everything to know about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh Jolie.

The young star was born on May 27, 2006, in Swakopmund, Namibia, PEOPLE exclusively announced. Local governor Samuel Nuuyoma called the birth “an honor for our country,” and added that the “delightful news” of a baby is “something very special in our African tradition.”

Deputy Minister Leon Jooste said that “according to Namibian law, [Shiloh will] be allowed to obtain Namibian citizenship if the parents should choose to do so” and that Jolie and Pitt were “thoroughly overjoyed.”

Just two months later, baby Shiloh got her own wax figure at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in New York City. Shiloh’s wax figure also featured her parents standing by her cradle.

She’s dabbled in the film industry

Shiloh first appeared in a film as a baby alongside her dad in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008. She was offered the chance to play a young Aurora in her mom’s 2014 film Maleficent, but she turned it down.

"I asked Shiloh about being Aurora, and she laughed in my face," Jolie told Elle. "She said she'd be a horned creature." Her younger sister, Vivienne, took the role instead. Shiloh went on to voice Shuai Shuai in Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016).

So how do her parents feel about a potential acting career? "Brad and I made the decision that we wouldn't keep them from sets and the fun of making movies, but we wouldn't [glorify it either],” Jolie told the outlet. “But I would really prefer they do something else."

Shiloh has emulated her mother's style over the years. In 2021, she wore a printed black-and-white Dior dress to the Eternals premiere in London — a look Jolie had previously worn two years earlier.

Jolie has been nothing but supportive of her daughter's fashion choices. “I think she is fascinating, the choices she is making,” Jolie told Reuters in 2010.

“I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting,” she said. “Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth.”

The proud mom added: “Society always has something to learn when it comes to the way we judge each other, label each other. We have far to go.”

She’s a dancer

Shiloh practices dance at Movement Lifestyle Studio in Burbank, California, and often works with choreographer Lil Kelaan Carter.

"Her movement is crazy. Thank you for your energy @sh1lohj," Carter wrote on Instagram alongside a video of Shiloh dancing to the song “Tanzania" in May 2024.

In August 2022, Pitt told Entertainment Tonight that Shiloh's dancing often brings him to tears.

"It's very beautiful," he said. "I don't know where she got it from. I'm Mr. Two-Left-Feet here."

Shiloh is no stranger to the red carpet, and she’s appeared with her parents and siblings numerous times.

In 2014, she posed alongside Pitt at the premiere of Jolie’s movie Unbroken in Los Angeles. Jolie was sick at the time, so Pitt, his parents, Shiloh and her brothers walked the carpet together.

She’s also appeared at the premieres of Dumbo, First They Killed My Father, Maleficent and Eternals.

She’s a world traveler and humanitarian

Shiloh has accompanied her parents on many adventures around the world.

In 2018, Jolie, Shiloh and her sister Zahara met Syrian refugees during a UNHCR trip to the Zataari refugee camp in Jordan. Having visited with refugees twice before, Shiloh specifically asked to join her mom on the trip while her brothers and sister Vivienne stayed behind in France.

In 2022, Jolie shared a photo of Shiloh from a visit to Cambodia — where her brother Maddox was born. "A few days in Cambodia among the warm local people, and I feel my soul is recovering,” Jolie wrote alongside the snap. “This has always been a special country for me and our family.”

Shiloh also joined her mom in Bosnia for the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2012, visited Ethiopia in 2019 and tagged along for many other humanitarian trips throughout the years.

She legally changed her last name

In August 2024, a judge approved Shiloh's petition to change her last name from Jolie-Pitt to Jolie. According to a source, the World War Z actor was "upset" by his daughter's decision.

"The reminders that he’s lost his children [are] not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad," the insider told PEOPLE.
