Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas has become a grandmother for the first time after her son welcomed a child last month.

Mark Ballas, who retired from Dancing With The Stars in March, announced the arrival of his son with his wife BC Jean in a sweet Instagram post on Tuesday.

Alongside the first image of their little one, who was born on November 5, the DWTS pro also revealed his rather usual name, captioning the post: "Welcome to Earth my son. Banksi Wylde Ballas 11 / 5 / 23.”

After uploading the post, Strictly stars including Arlene Phillips and Motsi Mabuse shared their well wishes to the couple and Shirley over the little one's arrival.

Mabuse penned: "Congratulations mom & dad . Wishing you all the best !!! @shirleyballas congratulations Shirley".

Phillips wrote: "You are blessed. All the joys and happiness on earth" while DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inba commented: "Congratulations Mark!

"It was awesome to see you tonight but to also learn that you and BC are now proud parents was such an incredible highlight! So happy for you all."

The couple announced in June that they were expecting in a sweet social media video after suffering a miscarriage last October.

Speaking about their loss, they shared previously on Instagram: "We lost a baby last year, just when we thought we were in a good place to tell friends + family.

"We received the heavy news that our little one wasn’t going to make it.

"We’ve both been through hard things, but this was a different kind of sadness."

The couple, who got married in 2016, released a song called Rainbow the same day that reflected on the experience of losing their unborn child.

Mark is known to US audiences as a professional dancer on Strictly's American counterpart, Dancing With The Stars.

He took up the role in 2007, last appearing in 2022 when he won alongside TikTok star and celeb partner Charli D'Amelio.
