Shoppers Take Supermarket Trolleys Home To Avoid 5p Plastic Bag Charge

We always knew that when the apocalypse came, it would take the shape of a supermarket trolley.

Shoppers in England were thrown into panic last week when the 5p charge for plastic bags was introduced in stores with more than 250 staff.

It seems consumers cannot bring themselves to pay the 5p fee for a bag, so much so that they are willing to spend £1 instead.

That is the cost of obtaining a supermarket trolley, although usually you get your pound back when you return it.

However, some shoppers are going the extra mile and filling up a trolley with groceries, then wheeling it home.

They have been boastfully posting the evidence of their endeavours on social media.

Aden Djvibe, of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, posted an image of a trolley in his kitchen on Facebook with the message: “5p for a bag, get f***** I got a #1 trolley”.

Another trolley fan said: “U don’t need to buy a bag for 5p, you can get a whole trolley for a quid”.

Paul Griffiths tweeted a picture of a trolley in his living room, writing: “5p for a bag quid for a trolley #nobrainer”.

Facebook user Amenyah posted a video of himself pushing a trolley along a road with the message: “5p for a plastic bag? You must be bloffin, trolley is 0p”.

Quite.
