It’s been four years since Sid Owen last appeared as Ricky Butcher on the streets of EastEnders’ Albert Square.

But it seems Sid, who’s taking part in this year’s Celebrity Masterchef, is raring to go back to all the drama in Walford and is hoping a new contract with the BBC will help him do so.

Sid joined the soap in 1988, with his character finding romance with Patsy Palmer’s character, Bianca Jackson. His last appearance as Ricky was in 2012.

Speaking to The Sun about the potential for Ricky to make a dramatic return (because no-one can return to The Square quietly, right?), Sid said: “I’ve got a contract with the BBC.

“I can’t really say too much about what I’ve got on but I’d 100% go back to EastEnders – it’s part of my life.

“I’ve done 28 years on and off and 15,000 episodes. Ricky is not dead yet – I should go back one day and finish the storyline or go back for a length of time.

“I’m always in touch with people from the show.”

Only time will tell what will happen on Albert Square.
