Simon Cowell has been accused of getting an act's 'hopes up' on Britain' Got Talent and 'snubbing' them for a Golden Buzzer, despite telling them they could win the whole show.

Simon was once again at the head of the judging panel as the long running ITV show made its return to primetime Saturday night TV this weekend, joining Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Amanda Holden, as they prepared to cast a first glance on the hopefuls all aiming to land a place on the line-up for this year's Royal Variety Show.

Before a single act had even set foot on stage at the London Palladium, Britain's Got Talent presenters Ant and Dec intervened to remind Simon and his colleagues that they could only each hit the Golden Buzzer once, after both Simon and Bruno ripped up the rule book last year, to put multiple acts straight through to the semis, before Simon relented and then allowed a joint Golden Buzzer in the final round of auditions.

One of the first acts on stage in Saturday's series opener was Mike Woodhams, a primary school teacher, who, while looking rather nervous as he stood in front of the panel, ended up being a real star performer, as he delivered very impressive singing impressions of the likes of James Blunt, Anastacia and Gabrielle, as he got their vocals down to a tee with renditions of You're Beautiful, I'm Outta Love and Out of Reach.

Both the judges and the audience were huge fans of Mike, with Simon telling him to believe in himself more as he "could win the show." However, despite all the love for Mike in the room and from the panel, there was to me no Golden Buzzer for him, as he walked off stage with four Yeses but no guaranteed place in the semis.

And the reaction on X (Twitter) was one of disappointment on Mike's behalf, with one upset viewer writing: "“You’re the kind of act that could win the all show” no doubt all the golden buzzer acts are s**t. The usual" as another posted: "Give him the golden buzzer"
