Simon Cowell has shared an exciting message with Liverpool ECHO readers.

The 64-year-old is renowned for his incredible eye for talent as he has launched the careers of acts such as One Direction, Little Mix and Leona Lewis. He is now on the lookout for the next big thing as he is conducting a nationwide search for a new boyband.

The Britain's Got Talent judge is travelling to three cities in the UK to find the next big thing and Liverpool is one of them. Simon is coming to Merseyside on July 6 and 7 and applications are open for talented 16 - 18 year olds to audition as he aims to find the next superstar.

In a message shared with the ECHO, he said: "Hello Liverpool ECHO and all your readers. It's Simon Cowell here. I can't wait to visit Liverpool on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July for my new boyband auditions.

"Liverpool has obviously been the most amazing place for musical talent, which is why we're coming here. So, if you or if anyone else you know could be the next superstar, please register to audition now at SimonNeedsYou.com

"This could be life-changing and I hope to see you there. Or just turn up." Simon hopes to go back to basics with his latest search as the audition process will not take place in front of crowd.

However, it is being filmed and could be the basis for a new documentary series. To be eligible, you must be aged around 16 - 18 years old.

Applicants must send over two videos singing acapella without any backing tracks that must have been recorded within the last two months. You can find the full details on how to apply here
