Sir Keir Starmer breaks silence over extra Bank Holiday if England win Euro 2024

Sir Keir Starmer has broken his silence over whether England will get a Bank Holiday after the Euro 2024 final. The Three Lions defeated the Dutch on Wednesday night to book their place in the Euro 2024 final against Spain in Berlin in Germany on Sunday night.

Arsenal fan Starmer took to social media after England's win over the Dutch to express his support for the Three Lions. "What a game @England and what a winner. Berlin here we come!," he posted on X. Commenting last year when the Lionesses reached the final of the Women's World Cup, Starmer called on then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to grant the nation an extra day off work.

"It's almost 60 years since England won the World Cup. I'm never complacent about anything…but there should be a celebratory bank holiday if the Lionesses bring it home," tweeted Starmer. And in 2021 when England reached the final of the 2020 Euros, Starmer called for a similar celebration.

"The whole country is incredibly proud of what Gareth Southgate and our England heroes have achieved already," he said. "History has been made. If we win on Sunday, the country should get the chance to celebrate it properly with an extra bank holiday, granted in the name of the England team."

As he sat with Joe Biden in the White House on Wednesday, Starmer was asked if football is coming home, to which he replied: "It looks like it." Biden was then asked by reporters if he watched the football, saying "I heard", before adding: "Good news indeed.

"It's all because of the Prime Minister." On TikTok, Georgeana Burkett, one England fan insists "not one person in England" will turn up for work on Monday if Gareth Southgate's team beat Spain.

He said: "But then if we get through to the final guess when the final is? Guess what time the final is? Eight o'clock kickoff on Sunday night. A Sunday night! Now, that has to be announced as a national Bank Holiday. No one is going to work that next day.

"Not one person in England. No one. And if you do, your life is boring. You've got no life."
