Sir Rod Stewart serenaded by lederhosen-clad men as superfan German mayor thanks rocker

The Mayor of the town where Steve Clarke's men are staying for Euro 2024 has said they will "take care of the guys". And Sir Rod Stewart fanatic Elizabeth Koch has invited him to perform in Bavaria's Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The 61-year-old recorded a video message for the music legend, after he had sent one to her thanking her and her residents for putting up our boys.

Her short clip started with two men dressed in lederhosen, one playing a trumpet and the other playing a tuba, before she appeared on screen with a Scotland flag draped around her neck.

She said: "Dear Sir Rod Stewart, thanks a lot for your video message. Have a look at the home far away from home for the Tartan Army. Be sure, we take care of the guys.

"And, by the way, we have a beautiful olympic ski stadium here, and it would be great for concerts - perhaps we'll see you soon."

The video ended with the mayor and musicians clinking pints of beer together and saying "prost!", which is German for 'cheers', before she held her glass aloft and said: "Cheers!".

Her message came after Sir Rod had sent her one last week to thank her for her town's hospitality. He said: "Sissy Koch, I hear your a big fan and the Scottish team are staying in your village during the Euros.

"Believe it or not I'm touring Germany. Tomorrow night I'm in Leipzig of all places. But look after the guys, make sure they go to bed early and don't drink too much booze. Hopefully I'll see you one day, thank you bye. "

Before the players arrived to her scenic alpine town, she revealed that she had seen Sir Rod in concert four times. And she said she would have loved to have seen him in action again.

But the 79-year-old said he was unable to pay her a visit due to his ongoing tour of Germany. She became a Sir Rod fan in the 1980s while a student in Munich.

Her favourite tracks are his 1967 hit First Cut Is The Deepest and the crooner's version of Waltzing Matilda. She previously said: "I told Steve Clarke and the other members of the Scotland party that I was a big Rod Stewart fan.

"They were able to show me selfies of them together. It would be great if he visited the team in the town and I could meet him. We had a really nice evening and talked a lot. It is a great honour for the town to host the Scotland team.

The town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen gave the Scotland team a warm welcome upon their arrival, ahead of the opening game mauling at the hands of hosts Germany.

John McGinn took part in the festivities as the locals provided the squad with a taste of Bavarian culture by performing a traditional folk dance, with the hilarious moment captured on camera.

And the locals gathered in numbers to watch the squad in an open training match as the heavens opened, in weather more suited to the visitors than the hosts.
