Sivert Heltne Nilsen to Aberdeen FC transfer fee agreed with one hurdle left before Jimmy Thelin reunion

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin is ready to make Sivert Heltne Nilsen his latest summer recruit.

The Dons have agreed a six figure deal to land the SK Brann captain. The 32-year-old said goodbye to Norwegian teammates on Wednesday and is now set to travel to Scotland. Nilsen will go through his medical and if all goes to plan will be announced as an Aberdeen player in the next 24 to 48 hours on a long-term contract.

Nilsen is a player that Thelin knows well having previously played for him at Elfsborg. The Norwegian is a defensive midfielder and one that Aberdeen have been crying out for since Ylber Ramadani departed last summer. Nilsen has played for Hood, Valerenga, Horsens, Elfsborg and is now in his second spell with Brann. He has also had a spell in Belgium with Waasland-Beveren.

Aberdeen hope to get clearance so Nilsen can make his debut in the Premier Sports Cup away to Queen of the South at the weekend. Thelin has already brought in Dimitar Mitov, Gavin Molloy and Peter Ambrose.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen’s pre-season preparations were wrecked when their friendly with Peterhead was postponed because of heavy rain. The match at Balmoor was cancelled meaning that Thelin’s new-look side have failed to get a pubic outing ahead of the new season.
