Six Flags Announces New Fright Fest Extreme Featuring “Stranger Things”, “The Nun” and More ‘Gory’ Mazes (Exclusive)

“The whole park will be decorated with things that are meant to scare you,” Chief Fright Officer Edithann Ramey tells PEOPLE of the next-level annual event

Six Flags is hitting a new extreme this Halloween season!

On Tuesday, June 25, the regional theme park company announced its scariest season yet with Fright Fest Extreme – Presented by SNICKERS. Known for its terrifying annual Fright Fest event, the company will be inviting guests to step into the world of their favorite horror and thriller franchises starting on Sept. 7 through Nov 3.

While themes from Saw and The Conjuring made waves at the parks last year, a new level of fear factor will be introduced at both Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and Six Flags Magic Mountain in California with attractions inspired by Stranger Things, Annabelle, The Nun, Army of the Dead and Trick ‘r Treat.

PEOPLE spoke with the parks’ Chief Fright Officer Edithann Ramey about what fans of these chilling franchises can expect before braving each haunted house.

“This whole extreme thing is all about bringing Halloween to life across the park,” Ramey tells PEOPLE. “We've got mazes you can walk through, you can get lost in them. The whole park will be decorated with lights and things that are meant to scare you. It's really about elevating the whole experience like never before.”

In addition to the above franchises, an exciting experience that draws inspiration from Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) will be offered at Six Flags Great Adventure, while guests at Six Flags Mexico will have access to an exclusive maze based on DC Comics’ DCeased.

Of each maze, Ramey adds that “there's something for everybody” depending on how scared guests prefer to be, and that it will also be a “sensory” experience.

“They're all scary in different ways because we wanted to bring a little bit of something for everybody. I would say some are very gory like Army of the Dead and Saw. Some are meant to mess with your mind like The Conjuring experience with Annabelle and The Nun. And then some are just meant to take you back and scare you a little bit, but also make you feel nostalgic.”

Ramey explains that while there is “no prep necessary” for each thrilling maze, it would be fun to either binge-watch all of the franchises beforehand or just go in cold to “truly be scared out of your mind.”

While all of the Fright Fest Extreme mazes are only being offered at the New Jersey and California locations, horror enthusiasts can look forward to some of the attractions opening at additional Six Flags parks across the country.
