Six Leeds fun but affordable things to do with kids this May half term

May half term is just around the corner, which means a full week of keeping the little ones entertained, but thankfully, there's plenty to do across Leeds during the school holidays.

From trying their hand at rock climbing to exploring the cities best museums, we've put together a list of ten of the best things you can do in Leeds this half term, suitable for all ages.

Whilst we're enjoying some great weather at the minute, we've made sure to select places that can be enjoyed in all weathers just in case things take a turn!

The school holidays can be an expensive time for families, especially with the ongoing cost of living crisis, so we have been careful to select activities that are affordable (or free!) so you can enjoy a day out without breaking the bank.

The Royal Armouries

The Royal Armouries Museum makes for the perfect day out during the school holidays in Leeds.

Home to over 4,500 awe-inspiring exhibits from the UK’s national collection of arms and armour, there are five jam-packed floors of galleries to explore from Henry VIII’s combat armour from 1520 to an incredible rare example of a mail and plate elephant armour. There are also daily live shows and combat demonstrations.

Showcase Cinema

Showcase Cinema de Lux Leeds has reduced its family ticket price to just £25, in time for May half-term.

The new reduced ticket price means a family of four can now watch all the biggest blockbusters at a cost of £6.25 each. And as if that wasn’t enough, family ticket holders can also claim a large sweet or salted popcorn per family, completely free of charge!

The offer is valid from Saturday, May, 25 to Sunday, June, 2 families can enjoy new releases including If, Kung Fu Panda 4 and The Garfield Movie.

Comedy Club 4 Kids at Carriageworks Theatre

Comedy Club 4 Kids will be stopping off at Carriageworks this half term as part of their UK tour. Like the name says, it’s a comedy club for kids!

The event isfor kids over the age of six and under 400 years old. The show promises to have the best comedians from the UK and world circuit doing what they do best… but without the rude bits!

Shells, Sea Creatures & Slime at Leeds Discovery Centre

Why not head down to Leeds Discovery Centre this half term to learn all there is to know about sea creatures! From oysters to octopuses, squids to snails, the little ones will love finding out about all the deadly, weird and interesting animals under the sea at this family friendly workshop.

You could make a day of it and take a look around the wider museum afterwards where you will find over one million objects, from mummy bandages to elephant skulls!

Lotherton Hall

The Volsung Vikings will invade the grounds of Lotherton Hall this half term, along with a whole host of Viking-themed activities, from living encampments and battle reenactments. There's something for everyone regardless of age! Fancy dress is encouraged!

The Volsung Vikings will be at Lotherton Hall on Saturday, 1 and Sunday, 2, June 2024.

Clip ‘n Climb

The school holidays are the perfect opportunity to try something new.

Clip ‘n Climb is great fun for the whole family, little one's can get to gribs with the climbing walls whilst parents can relax in the knowledge that they are all set with a clip-on safety system.

There are 32 unique climbing routes to scale and build up your confidence on – once you’ve worked up an appetite head to the on-site Woodpeckers Diner for a bite.
