Six saved in night-time rescue at sea

A Norfolk lifeboat was launched to rescue six people on board a pleasure boat that had lost power at sea.

HM Coastguard alerted Hunstanton RNLI that the boat's engine had failed.

The volunteer crew launched the Spirit of West Norfolk inshore lifeboat as darkness fell and made their way to the boat that was stranded in the Boston Deeps, a deep water channel in The Wash.

They quickly covered the 15-mile journey across the estuary, arriving on scene at around 10.30pm.

The crew towed the boat to Boston (Image: RNLI Hunstanton) The four-strong crew found all on board were safe and proceeded to tow the vessel to Boston where she was successfully handed over to the Boston pilot shortly before midnight.

The Spirit of West Norfolk then set off back across The Wash to Hunstanton where she was washed down and refuelled ready for her next service.

The volunteer crew members returned to their homes just after 2am.

The call came in at 9.30pm on Wednesday, June 26.
