Six companies from the Yorkshire and Humber region have been singled out among the 100 fastest-growing companies in the UK.

The annual Sunday Times 100 highlights and celebrates Britain’s 100 leading entrepreneurial businesses, while also shining a light on the founders behind the dynamic companies. The third list to be published shows International Energy Products, based in Sheffield, is the region’s fastest growing company. The metal stockholder and processor features at number 37 on the list with turnover of £7.1m.

York skincare company 47 Skin is at number 52, having seen annual sales rise by 99.38% over the last three years, taking turnover to £8.5m, while Beverley based resin manufacturer Vuba makes it to number 71 with sales of £12.7m, which has grown by 77.51%.

Outdoor furniture firm Akula Living, based in Wetherby, makes it into number 85 with turnover of £21.1m and a growth rate of 69.24%, while Leeds letting and estate agency North Property Group is at number 93 with growth of 64.95% and turnover of £6.6m.

Leeds based Wilson Power Solutions rounds off the list at number 99. It was set up in 1946 by Richard Wilson to provide flameproof equipment, pumps and motors. His children Colin and Dennis built the business into one of the largest suppliers of refurbished transformers and switchgear to industry, and it is now led by Erika Wilson, 45, apprentice-turned-managing director.

The research for The Sunday Times 100 found on average the top 100 fastest-growing companies have increased their sales by 118% a year over the last three years to a combined £2.9bn in sales.

In total these companies employ 13,670 people, having created 10,000 new jobs in the last three years, with 99 of them planning further hires in the next 12 months - equating to around 3,800 additional roles.

More than two thirds of the companies were founded in the last decade and the oldest company on the list is power transformer manufacturer Wilson Power Solutions.

Jim Armitage, business editor of The Sunday Times, said: “Our politicians talk about how they will deliver economic growth, but it is the graft of entrepreneurs -- such as those featured on this year’s Sunday Times 100 -- who achieve it. Their remarkable resilience in difficult economic conditions shows what is possible with vision and hard work.”

The research for the Sunday Times 100 – which is sponsored by Barclays Private Bank and supported by Singer Capital Markets and Inflexion – is conducted by its business reporters, in partnership with Beauhurst, a source of private company data.
