Sixth school in Southampton affected over 'bomb hoax'

A sixth school has been affected in connection with this morning's bomb hoax.

Weston Secondary School in Tickleford Drive has been evacuated with police on site.

Police confirmed five schools received bomb hoaxes via phone call this morning.

Bitterne Park School, Banister Park School, Regents Park Community College, St Anne’s Catholic Girl’s Secondary School and St George’s Catholic College were all affected, police confirmed.

Hampshire Police has now confirmed to the Echo that a sixth school in Southampton, Weston Secondary School, has also been evacuated.

A police car has been spotted on the school site and students have been taken to the nearby Chamberlayne Leisure Centre.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said earlier: "At this time we are treating these calls as a hoax. We are working closely with the affected schools who are assisting us with enquiries."

David Butterworth, headteacher of Weston Secondary School, told the Echo: "We have responded to a serious threat.

"The students have been evacuated safely and calmly. We have two exits either side of the school and the decision was made gather students at the leisure centre.

"95 per cent of the students have now been collected by parents.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the bus service who have been fantastic. They have offered all of our students a free bus service."
