A SKIPTON gift shop has made it to the final ten to be crowned craft and gift shop of the year.

Out of the Ordinary in Swadford Street is up against strong competition including Our Handmade Collective in Horsforth and The Handmade Gift Shop at Piece Hall, Halifax, in the English Independent Retail Awards.

Owner, Nicola Heap, said: "There are another nine finalists in my category, but to say I've made the top ten, feels amazing in itself."

Nicola's shop has been nominated by the public, and she now has to submit an explanation as to why it stands out from the rest. Public votes and her application then go to an independent panel which will select the winner.

As well as Out of the Ordinary; From the Source in Coach Street, Skipton, is a finalist in specialist retailer of the year; and Discount Sports, also in Skipton, is a finalist in independent sports retailer of the year.

Winners of the Creative Oceanic powered by Oceanic Awards will be announced at a black tie ceremony held on July 22 at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.
