Sky confirms premiere date of 'The Last Of Us'

Sky has announced that The Last Of Us will premiere in January next year.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the post-apocalyptic drama series, which is based on the popular 2013 video game of the same name.

And it turns out they don't have long to wait, with the show set to air exclusively on Sky Atlantic and NOW on 16 January.

The nine-episode series stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker and Melanie Lynskey.

It takes place 20 years after modern civilisation has been destroyed and sees hardened survivor Joel hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

However, what starts out as a small job soon escalates and it "becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the US and depend on each other for survival".

Sky has also confirmed that each episode of The Last Of Us will be available at the same time as the US premiere each week at 2am and on demand after that.

Excitement has been building since the adaptation of the game was first announced and revved up following the release of a trailer earlier this year.

"I have never, ever, EVER been more excited for a show than this one!" one fan tweeted.

"I'm so hyped!" posted someone else.

Another person gushed: "I get chills watching the trailer for The Last Of US."

"I just can’t wait for 2023 to happen already!!" said another fan of the game.

Someone else said that the show looks "profound".
