Sky issues broadband customers 'worst' warning and says 'move it now'

Sky has shared the five of the worst places to put your Wi-Fi router – and warns you should move it now for an instant speed boost. "Struggling to connect or experiencing slow WiFi?" Sky posted on X or previously Twitter this weekend, adding: "This might be why....!"

The company shared five "not spots" around the home. The first named was the b oiler cupboard because a confined space like this doesn't give your hub the space to spread the signal evenly. The heat generated from the boiler can also slow it down - and it could be a fire hazard.

On top of the microwave was named second, because m icrowaves can disrupt your Wi-Fi signal when it's in use. It gives off a tonne of electromagnetic radiation that can interfere with your router's signals, Sky - a major provider - has said.

Wicker baskets are also not a good idea, because enclosed spaces can disrupt the connection. The basement will not help the Wi-Fi connection reach up to the bedrooms, so you'll notice issues here. A central spot in the home is generally best, Sky warned. Its fifth and final showed a person who has stuck their router upside down underneath a kitchen cupboard.

A Sky WiFi extender can extend your hub's WiFi signal to cover those harder to reach areas in your home. It will improve your WiFi coverage but won't improve the speed you get to your hub, the electronic company and entertainment provider has also explained.

To get the best signal from your WiFi extender and hub, keep them out in the open - not in a cabinet, on the floor or stuck behind the tv. 30cm of space around it's best, and also keep away from other wireless devices like your cordless phone, baby monitors, etc.
